Earthing Services: Community
Every now and then people see something like Earthing Services’ sponsorship of a sports team, or the support of a charitable cause and asks why the company bother doing it. A common thought may be advertising, and whilst it is always a matter of pride amongst the company owners to see the logo emblazoned on the playing jerseys of the Nottingham Panthers, it is highly unlikely that someone in the crowd will see it and decide they need the company’s help designing an electrical earthing system for a power station, and this is only more true when the company is helping orphans in Thailand. The reality is that the management of Earthing Services want the company to helps its customers, and wants the company to make the world better not worse.
Here is something that most companies fail to acknowledge, hoping the world will not notice like the equivalent of dirty laundry: Businesses cannot feel, or think, or care, no matter what supermarket advertising may claim, and this is because companies are not living beings. In real terms companies do not have a favourite food, or cry at movies or have any difficulties making really good pancakes, unless it is a company that makes and sells pancakes!
It is unsurprising that large corporations are very focused on making profit because bank balances are one of the easiest ways to determine how well a company is functioning: if the amount gets larger then something is going well, whereas if the amount reduces something may be going wrong.
That is not to say that people who run companies do not need to recognise what their company may mean to their customers, or to the world at large. Companies do things, they make things, or buy things to sell on, or they provide services and human beings attribute meanings to those activities. A person who advises people that they win the jackpot on the National Lottery is likely to be remembered more fondly than if that same person worked for a debt collection company pursuing payments. But it does not just come down to good news and bad news. Sometimes it is a company that removes a problem from their customers, or the world.
Earthing Services is a company in the same way as many others, it does not have a pulse or hobbies. Earthing Services does mean something though, its loyal customer base who enjoy its effectiveness, its value, and its ability to take their problems and resolve them. We often hear about personal service and that being something that people enjoy, and Earthing Services is certainly recognised for that.
The management team at Earthing Services is very much hands on, and it values the people who work for the company. The management team want its staff to be happier, and more fulfilled, as a result of working for the company; it wants the team to be challenged and work hard, and then be rewarded for it and that cycle should keep them motivated, focused, and productive. But the management at Earthing Services wants more than just the staff to be happy; it believes that to have a really functional and stable working environment the people around their staff should have a better life because of it, and the people around them. A happy community that feels the benefit of a company within it will help it succeed.
A.W. Elliott had a philosophy that sharing the benefits of a successful business would improve the lives of others, and that in turn would improve his life; and the management team continues to believe that and try to live to his example. Over the pages in this section of the website you will see some examples of the sorts of community focused activities that the company is involved with and hopefully it will demonstrate the ways it reaches out beyond the realms of the sectors in which it operates.
Sometimes doing a good thing is a good idea because doing good things is generally a good idea and needn’t be questioned any further than asking why the sun is so far away; if it were closer or further away chances are life on this planet would be over so it may be worth being thankful that it is exactly where it is: in that way we shall continue to try and do good things.
